Bankruptcy Questions!!!?

My mums husband (soon to divorce) is talking about going bankrupt, they both owe about 90k jointly, im worried he knows that she is due to inherit about 40k from my late nan, will she lose this money? he is doing everything in his power to lose everytihng for my mum hence why she is in serious debt etc! please help so i can give some peace of mind to her!
