In The Prestige, is Anjier (Hugh Jackman) still alive at the end?

At first I thought he died from the gunshot wound. But then I read an account on the internet that suggested the Jackman clone in the tank in the very last shot of the movie was still alive, watching Bale walk out (they said a bubble came from his mouth in the tank suggesting he was till alive). I didn't spot the bubble, did anyone else?
